The Temecula Historical Society Presents Expeditions of Juan Bautista De Anza

January 26th 6:00PM to 7:30PM

A monument sits at the Anza Narrows Park in Riverside, overlooking the Santa Ana River, on the Juan Bautista De Anza National Historic Trail. The trail spans 1,210 miles from Nogales, Mexico to San Francisco.

On Monday, January 26, Steve Lech will give a presentation on the Expeditions of Juan Bautista De Anza. In the mid-1770s, Capt. Juan Bautista de Anza and a group of soldier/explorers set out to document an overland route from Sonora to Mission San Gabriel. The Spanish government needed to alleviate the shipment of supplies to the newly-founded missions and presidios in Alta California, and Anza believed he could find a way. In this presentation, author and historian Steve Lech will trace the inland route, especially as it pertains to the portion within present-day Riverside County, California.

Lech is a native of Riverside who has been interested in the local history of Riverside County for more than 40 years. He has written or co-written 18 books and over 300 articles on various subjects of Riverside County history, is the current chair of the Riverside County Historical Commission, and co-authors the weekly “Back in the Day” column for the Press-Enterprise newspaper. Nature

Dripping Springs Trail

Get out and enjoy some sun and natural beauty this weekend.

Southeast of Temecula Valley Wine Country in the Agua Tibia Wilderness, the Dripping Springs Trail offers great exercise and is considered a moderate to hard hike. There are campgrounds and outdoor enthusiasts can hike to their comfort level and turn around without having to complete the entire 15.8 miles of trails. Hikers will be treated to vistas that include views of rolling vineyards in the distance along with nearby Vail Lake. Shade is in short supply on these trails, so summer is not an ideal time to hike.  Dogs on leashes are welcome. Adventure Pass required.

Location:
